Memorial Day

Milford and the surrounding communities gather In Downtown Milford for the Annual Memorial Day Event to remember and honor those fallen while serving in the Armed Forces

Military flyovers add to excitement of the annual parade

 which is followed by a very patriotic closing ceremony in Central Park

WHAT:                 Up to 1,000 veterans representing generations of military service, from World War II to the current Middle East Conflicts, will gather in downtown Milford for the community’s annual Memorial Day Parade. Beginning at the American Legion Post 216, the solemn, yet celebratory procession will include military vehicles, local police and fire departments, marching bands, scouting organizations and more. The parade route will travel east on Commerce Road and south on Main Street, ending in Milford’s Central Park with a brief ceremony and remembrance event.

Scheduled military flyovers, weather-permitting, made possible by the Selfridge Air National Guard Base.   Yankee Air Museum will feature  several vintage and modern-day military aircraft, including: [B-25 bomber & C-47 cargo  plane, and AT-6 and SNJ single engine fighters.]  Schedule permitting, the Michigan Army National Guard Aviation Unit may fly in for viewing a Sikorsky Blackhawk helicopter.

 PHOTO-OPP:     The day-long event will include several photo opportunities:

  • Up to 1,000 veterans gather at the American Legion and march thru downtown Milford to Central Park in honor and remembrance of those fallen in wartime.
  • Thousands of community members applauding and cheering in tribute to the men and women who have served and are still serving in our Country.
  • A respectful and somber remembrance ceremony in Central Park.
  • A flyover of several current and historic aircraft (dependent on the weather).
  • Static display of military vehicles on Main Street prior to the start of the Parade.
  • Newly restored “Hawk Missile Launcher” on static display on Main Street as well.
  • “Rosie the Riveters” from Yankee Air Museum

WHO:                   Goal of 1,000 veterans representing:

  • American Legion Post 216
  • Huron Valley American Veterans Post 2006
  • Highland VFW Post 9914
  • Veterans and other active duty/reservist members from near and far
  • Vets attending for the first time will ceremoniously receive a special “Veterans Medal”

WHEN:                 Monday, May 27th

                                Veterans gather at American Legion Post 216 at 9:30 a.m.

            The parade will commence at the American Legion Post 216 at 11 a.m.

                        Military flyovers will occur at various times between 11:00am and NOON.

 WHY:                    Milford’s annual Memorial Day activities serve as a reminder of the great sacrifice by the those who lost their lives serving in the military and provides the local community an opportunity to thank our current veterans for their service. The Memorial Day parade is made possible by the American Legion Post 216, Huron Valley American Veterans Post 2006 and Highland VFW Post 9914, and by generous donations from individuals and businesses.

NOTE:  The parade will occur regardless of weather.

Flyovers may be cancelled in the event of poor weather.
